Tangential pressure measurements in above-knee suction sockets.

چکیده
Tangential pressure (TP) , as defined in this study, is that pressure parallel to and located at the socket inner face. The talrgential pressure resultant (TP,) will possess a horizontal component (TP,) directed along an axis perpendicular to the main socket axis and a vertical component (TP,) directed along the main socket axis (see Fig. 1). The plane in which all tangential pressures exist is at right angles to the perpendicular pressure (PP) , i.e., squeeze pressure developed between the socket and the stump.

The Results of Slip Measurements in Above-knee Suction Sockets
Slip is defined, in this study, as relative motion between the stump skin and the socket. An excessive amount of slip may lead to abrasive injury, inadequate control over socket position and, ultimately, possible loss of the prosthesis. Conversely, lack of slip may conceivably reflect excessive restraint obtained by too tight a fit; implicit are large stump socket pressures. This study was cond...

In recent decades amputee management has advanced significantly. With the ad vent of blood flow studies and new surgical procedures, more knee joints are being saved. Physical therapists, using ad vanced facilitation techniques such as pro prioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), are better able to restore limb strength, range of motion, and coordina tion. Advances in the field of pros...

Below knee amputation, which is noticed as one of the most common lower extremity amputations, is caused as a result of various factors like trauma, disease, or congenital limb deficiencies. In order to take these amputees back to daily life, below knee prostheses are used as an alternate to original limb. Comfort and patients’ satisfaction with prostheses are directly related to each prost...
متن کاملValidity of method to quantify transtibial amputees' free-living prosthetic wearing times and physical activity levels when using suction suspension sockets.
Prostheses are prescribed to restore the mobility of people with amputated lower limbs. Monitoring the prosthesis wearing times and physical activity of prosthesis users would provide invaluable information regarding rehabilitation progress and suitability of the prosthesis. The validation of a method to determine wearing times and physical activity state, as well as strides taken, of amputees ...
متن کاملStatus of the above-knee suction socket in the United States.
1 HE above-knee suction socket constitutes a means of attaching an artificial leg to the stump of an amputee without necessity for the conventional pelvic band, a metal hip joint, or other types of suspension harness (Fig. 1). The leg is held on by the slight vacuum created in the socket each time the leg is lifted from the ground, the pressure usually being controlled by a valve installed in t...
